Thank you for joining us at the Learn 24/7 Gym at Dare To Learn 2018!

The exercises at the gym are made of parts of the learning process. They will help you strengthen skills that support your learning - like curiosity, attention and association. Just like in physical training, even though occasional breakthroughs are possible, it usually takes long term repetition for tangible results. For continuing the practice at home, here's the exercises from the gym in the format they were available at the event. For the books and other scientific sources behind the gym, see this working document.

The Learn 24/7 concept is now also available as a workbook.

How the Learn 24/7 Gym was born

Learn 24/7 exercises are based on a personal learning journey over 6 years. During the journey I've walked across the fields of neuroscience, psychology, evolutionary biology, mindfulness, physics, anthropology, yoga, history and physiology while also going through a personal transformation that you can read more about in my blog. This journey was motivated initially by the need to understand how humans work, and later how this one works. What I discovered is that being human and learning are not separate. Learning is what we are.

The Learn 24/7 Gym concept was born when we started coming up with ideas for our native program for Dare To Learn 2018. The exercises and the overall production of the concept was done by Jussi Hölttä. I'm grateful to Oskari Niitamo and Heini Hult-Miekkavaara for their help in turning the idea into something concrete. Thanks to Pekka Freese, Henrika Anttila, Akseli Huhtanen, Susanna Jokimies, Aino Luotola, Roosa Frantsi, Roosa Manninen, Siiri Juntumaa, Tiina Mikkonen and the rest of the Dare To Learn team 2018 for your feedback and contributions to this work. And also to the participants of the test events for your valuable feedback. Special thanks to Helsinki Think Company and Improvment for providing the space for the test events.

Beyond the gym

The gym is a sample of a much larger idea of improving learning. These exercises focus on the individuals, but similiar exercises and principles can be applied on a much larger scale in organizations. The first step in this is figuring out what's going on right now.

We are offering this as a service with a group of people who were in the Dare To Learn 2018 Program Team. We are a diverse group of people with two things in common: love for learning and trust in science. Together we can help you understand the learning capabilities of your organization from multiple perspectives and accelerate learning across the organization.
